Introduction / first impressions
When we think of places that invite you to slow down, reconnect, and truly enjoy life’s little luxuries – The Residence Mauritius is now high on that list.
We came with high hopes after staying at The Residence Maldives, and this island retreat didn’t disappoint. From the moment we arrived, it felt like a different rhythm took over – one of calm mornings, warm ocean breezes, and peaceful moments that stayed with us long after we left.
The setting is undeniably romantic – but not in an over-the-top way. It’s more about the feeling you get when the day ends with a glowing sunset, when the staff greet you by name, and when even the smallest moments feel thoughtful.
Whether you’re here to celebrate something special or just want to feel a world away, The Residence Mauritius has a way of making it all feel easy – and meaningful.

Getting to The Residence Mauritius couldn’t be more straightforward – and honestly, the experience is smooth from the very first moment. Once you land at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, a private transfer (organized by the hotel, if you choose) can take you directly to the resort. The drive along the coast already gives you a first taste of what’s to come: palm trees, turquoise glimpses of the sea, and a sense of calm growing with every kilometer.
When you arrive at the entrance, everything is taken care of. Luggage disappears without a second thought, welcome drinks appear as if by magic, and within minutes, you’re checked in and guided to your room by one of the friendly staff members.
Room / Villa

We stayed in a spacious Ocean Front Room – and from the very first moment, it felt like our own private escape. The layout was generous, the decor timeless, and the soft sound of the ocean just outside the terrace doors set the tone for our stay. Waking up to those views each morning? Something we won’t forget anytime soon. Everything you’d expect from a luxury resort is already there: air conditioning that actually works well, a Nespresso machine, complimentary water, daily housekeeping and turndown service, and of course, 24-hour in-room dining if you ever feel like staying in.
What we personally loved most was the sense of space and peace. Whether it was lounging on the daybed outside or enjoying a quiet moment in the walk-in dressing area before dinner – the room felt like a little sanctuary. If you’re after something even more private, the resort also offers suites and villas with direct beach access and private pools – ideal for those who want an extra layer of intimacy and seclusion.
It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself spending just as much time in your room as you do out exploring – not because you have to, but because you’ll actually want to.
Resort / Outdoor area of The Residence Maldives

The outdoor areas at The Residence Mauritius feel like they’ve been designed with one goal in mind: helping you unwind. Whether you’re in the mood for doing absolutely nothing or slowly exploring the surroundings – there’s space for both.
We often started our day with a stroll along the beach, where the palm trees lean lazily toward the turquoise sea. The sand is soft, the air smells like salt and frangipani, and you’ll rarely meet more than a handful of other guests.
One of our favorite spots to unwind was the main pool area. Surrounded by lush gardens and just a few steps from the beach, it’s perfect for a quiet swim, reading a book, or sipping a fresh juice. Around sunset, the golden light turns the entire area into something truly magical – we highly recommend timing at least one visit around that hour.
If you’re looking for a peaceful escape within the resort, there are plenty of shaded paths, hidden benches, and beachfront loungers where you can pause, reflect, and let time slow down for a bit.
Gastronomy / Dining

One of the things we enjoyed most at The Residence Mauritius was the overall dining vibe – it felt relaxed, yet refined. You never had to “dress up,” but every meal still felt like a little occasion. The atmosphere was always calm, the service warm, and the setting? Often with your feet in the sand or a soft breeze from the sea.
There are several options to choose from, with The Dining Room being the main restaurant. Breakfast here was a daily highlight – think fresh tropical fruit, made-to-order eggs, pancakes, and everything else you might crave to start the day slow and happy. Dinner offered a mix of international classics and Mauritian-inspired dishes, with changing menus and plenty of variety.
For lunch, we loved The Verandah, especially for its laid-back setting near the pool and light dishes like salads, wraps, and fresh seafood. And if you’re looking for something more special, The Plantation is the place to go – a beachfront restaurant in a beautifully restored colonial-style building. With its fine dining touch and focus on local flavors, it’s ideal for a quiet dinner by candlelight or a sunset toast.
In short: Whether you’re foodies or just appreciate good, honest cooking – you’ll be very well taken care of here.
Family / Honeymoons with kids
Traveling with kids changes everything – and we know exactly what that means. Finding a place that truly works for the whole family isn’t always easy. But The Residence Mauritius managed exactly that.
From the very beginning, we felt that children weren’t just “tolerated” – they were genuinely welcome. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff warm and understanding, and little touches throughout the resort made our stay as parents feel so much easier. There’s a lovely kids club on site with fun activities and a dedicated team, but honestly, our little ones were just as happy spending the day in the pool or exploring the gardens. Watching the ocean from the beach or spotting fish near the shore became their favorite game. And every evening ended the same way: collecting seashells along the water’s edge. It’s a rare combination – a resort that gives you the comfort and calm you want as adults, while still offering freedom and joy for the kids.

Hospitality
It’s honestly hard to say what impressed us more – the beautiful setting or the way we were treated throughout our stay. The Residence Mauritius might look like a dream on the outside, but it’s the people who give it soul.
We’ve stayed in many places around the world, but here, the hospitality stood out in a way that felt truly special. From the gardeners to the front-desk team, from the waitstaff to the spa therapists – every single person we interacted with was warm, respectful, and genuinely kind.
It never felt scripted. It was the little things – a smile in the hallway, a thoughtful gesture at breakfast, or a quiet “Welcome back” when returning from the beach – that made the difference.
In a world where service can often feel like routine, The Residence Mauritius reminded us what true hospitality looks like. And that’s something we’ll carry with us long after the suitcases are unpacked.
Short summary

The Residence Mauritius is definitely worth a visit. If you’re planning a stay on this beautiful island and looking for a place that combines natural beauty with heartfelt service – this resort should be high on your list.
What makes it special isn’t just the white sandy beach or the gentle rhythm of the ocean – it’s how everything is thoughtfully managed. From the warm welcome to the quiet luxury of the rooms, from the calm poolside moments to the flavorful dining experiences – it all flows together effortlessly.
We were genuinely impressed by the team spirit among the staff. It’s rare to see so many people work together with such consistency, kindness, and attention to detail.
So here’s our honest conclusion: The Residence Mauritius gave us not just a beautiful holiday, but a truly memorable experience. And for that, we simply say – thank you.
